ancient rocks and old bath water
Today was our last trip-sponsored day trip to Stonehenge and Bath. Our tour guide, as usual, thoroughly educated us on all the various theories and facts about the mystery that is Stonehenge – fascinating stuff. Without this background info, it would account to not much more than looking at a bunch of old rocks. (I’ll let you all Google it yourself, if you are interested, rather than try to regurgitate here!)

Back on the coach, we headed to Bath, the ancient town, that was later entirely rebuilt in the Georgian style with rows of Georgian houses lining the steep hillside and a large cathedral by the river in the valley – spectacular.
Upon finding the natural hot spring that exists here, the Romans built a quite elaborate baths facility. We took the tour of the Roman baths which has been partially excavated and included many interesting and informative explanations and diagrams showing what the place would have looked like at that time. Amazing to think this place has been a tourist retreat for over 2000 years! See the museum website, if you are interested in reading more: http://www.romanbaths.co.uk/. In any case, I can see why the UK tour book I have recommended spending a whole weekend here. It would have been a fantastic romantic getaway, had Ira been in England longer. Yet another place to add to the to-do-later list of future travels!
